Seminar Follow Up!

Jeff and I would like to extend our appreciation to you, Bob and the vendors for your time at the seminar last week. Bob is an excellent presenter - with examples, word pictures and his bag of antidotal stories. He made what is often dry information interesting. I think my husband gets it all better than I, so I may need to repeat! There is so much green talk in the market place, you just do not know what to believe so I tend to tune it out. We were both pleased to learn facts - a good starting point. Jeff was so motivated that last Saturday we bought CFL light bulbs for most of our indoor light! We hope to replace the others soon. This Saturday we plan to attend the SIPS Seminar. Thank you too for the CD. I have looked at both the pdf files and the links to the tax credit information. This information in invaluable since we would not even know these benefits were available. Meanwhile, we have encouraged friends who are getting ready or considering building to attend the seminar. It is so much easier on the front end! Be encouraged you are making a difference! Kathleen & Jeff D.

Silver Switch Award Winner

Harrison County REMC Receives Silver Switch Award
For its long-standing program in educating consumers about home energy use and efficiency, Harrison County REMC has been honored with a national recognition. The 2009 “Silver Switch Award” was presented to Bob Geswein, Energy Services Specialist for the electric cooperative on April 22nd during a national meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio. The award was presented by the Rural Electricity Resource Council, an association of electric power suppliers from across the country. The RERC sponsors this award to honor successful efforts by electric utilities in serving the rural sector, including programs in energy management, electricity education or rural economic development. Harrison County REMC was recognized for its “High Performance Home Seminars” which have been presented by Geswein since 1996. The free seminars are presented each month to offer unbiased and practical information to those planning a new home or wanting to make their present home more efficient. After 13 years, the sessions continue to be well-attended, which is a testament to their value and the need for information among homeowners. Beyond the boundaries of Harrison County REMC’s territory, other cooperatives and allied groups have sponsored the meetings in their own locations. It’s clear that Bob Geswein’s dedication to delivering practical and useful information is what makes this program a success. Because the Silver Switch award is presented to only one utility or allied organization each year, it is an honor to be recognized. As a nonprofit association of electric companies, cooperatives and public power districts formed in 1957, the Rural Electricity Resource Council (RERC) sponsors this award to highlight innovative and proactive programs aimed at the rural sector. RERC also develops training materials and provides technical assistance on electricity’s value and safe use, with an emphasis on rural consumers and agricultural customers.
